A website built by a first-time buyer, for first-time buyers
Hi! My name is Davíð and I'm a first-time buyer myself — and after a long search, I finally found and bought my first home!
When I started looking at the real estate market in Iceland, I quickly discovered that information was scattered all over the web. What is an indexed loan? How does pension savings work? What should I look for when viewing an apartment? The questions were endless.
"I decided to gather all the information I needed in one place and share it with others in the same situation I was in."
Fyrstukaup was born out of personal need. The calculators, checklists, and all the information are what I used on my journey to my first property — and what I still maintain so the next first-time buyer doesn't have to start from scratch.
Did I find my dream property? Yes — I bought my first home! It took countless open houses, endless loan calculations, and a deep dive into the pension savings system, but I made it.
The real estate market in Iceland is challenging, especially for us first-time buyers. Prices are high, competition is fierce, and sometimes it feels like you're chasing a dream. If I made it, you can too — and I'll keep this site running to help you get there.
Fyrstukaup is open and free for everyone. I want all first-time buyers to have access to good information and tools that can help them make an informed decision. If this site has helped you, that makes me incredibly happy!
All content is written with first-time buyers in mind, in a simple and understandable way.
The site was built from personal need when I was learning about the buying process myself.
I found and bought my first home — and I keep updating the site with everything I learned along the way.
